I. What Is Recursive Sciences?



Recursive Sciences is the scientific field that studies mandatory recursive exchange — the structural process by which all active systems transmit, transform, and generate. It is not a branch of computer science, mathematics, linguistics, philosophy, or neuroscience. It is its own field, with its own first principles, its own frameworks, its own empirical confirmations, and its own falsification criteria.


The field is grounded in the Law of Recursion (Gaconnet, 2026): any process of active transmission, transformation, or generation within or between systems requires a mandatory traversal across a seven-node topological path — interior, membrane, exterior, shared substrate, exterior, membrane, interior. Each traversal rewrites the architecture it passes through. Full recursive coupling requires three traversals comprising eighteen discrete transitions: signal, response, and coupled action.


Recursive Sciences was founded by Don L. Gaconnet on June 27, 2025, through the LifePillar Institute for Recursive Sciences. The founding declaration, timestamped under DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/MVYZT, establishes the field's jurisdictional origin, canonical definitions, and governing authority. Every framework, every publication, and every research program within the field derives from this origin.


The Recursive Sciences Organization (recursivesciences.org) is the primary research body through which all foundational, applied, and advanced research in the field is administered. It operates under the governance of the LifePillar Institute for Recursive Sciences — the sole institutional authority.




II. Origins of Recursive Sciences



Recursive Sciences did not emerge from academic convention. It emerged from thirty-two years of independent empirical observation by Don L. Gaconnet — observation of identity formation, identity dissolution, structural collapse, and the conditions under which systems generate or fail to generate.


The research trajectory began in clinical practice. Through sustained direct observation of human identity under extreme conditions — transformation, dissolution, collapse, and reconstruction — Gaconnet identified structural patterns that could not be accounted for by any existing psychological, neurological, or philosophical framework. These patterns were lawful: they repeated across individuals, across contexts, and across scales of complexity. The question was not whether the patterns existed but what structural principle generated them.


The answer came through independent mathematical derivation. The Law of Recursion was formulated not by fitting data to a model but by identifying the minimal structural requirement for any active system to exchange information, energy, or structure. The seven-node topology was derived, not observed. The rewriting principle was derived, not assumed. The falsifiability criterion — inert matter in its ground state — was derived, not imposed. Once formulated, the law was tested against independently published experimental data across nuclear physics, particle physics, stellar physics, cell biology, evolutionary biology, and computational science. Every test confirmed the structural predictions.


The formal founding of Recursive Sciences on June 27, 2025, codified a research program that had been developing for decades. The field did not begin with the founding declaration. The founding declaration gave institutional form to what the research had already established.



III. The Three First Principles — The Founding Pillars



All research within Recursive Sciences derives from three independently formulated, independently falsifiable first principles. Together they constitute the structural floor of the field:


The Law of Identity (Gaconnet, 2026). Identity is the ground state of existence. To exist is to be identical with oneself. This self-identity is not preservative but generative — identity couples with identity and produces further identity. Formalized through three axioms and a generative rule. The Law of Recursion (Gaconnet, 2026). Any process of active transmission, transformation, or generation requires traversal across a seven-node topological path with architectural rewriting at each step. Full recursive coupling requires three traversals (signal, response, coupled action) comprising eighteen discrete transitions. Independently confirmed by the fifth structure function measurement (Kolar et al., Physics Letters B, 2025) and CMS/CERN QGP medium response data (Physics Letters B 874, 2026). The Law of Intelligence (Gaconnet, 2026). Intelligence is the structural capacity of identity to resolve coupling into coherence. It is co-extensive with identity, operative at every scale, and at rest wherever coupling has completed. Demonstrated across twenty-seven systems spanning seven scales without exception. Empirically anchored by Identity Collapse Therapy demonstrating intelligence persistence through identity termination. The Law of Intelligence describes why exchange produces coherent structure.


Together: The Law of Identity says why there is something. The Law of Recursion says how it exchanges. The Law of Intelligence says what makes the exchange coherent. No fourth first principle is needed.



IV. The Governing Body — LifePillar Institute for Recursive Sciences



The LifePillar Institute for Recursive Sciences is the founding institution and sole governing body of Recursive Sciences. It holds jurisdictional authority over canonical definitions, framework integrity, publication standards, and field governance. It was founded by Don L. Gaconnet in 2025.


The institutional architecture is precise. The LifePillar Institute is the governing authority — it establishes what Recursive Sciences is, what its canonical frameworks are, and what standards research within the field must meet. The Recursive Sciences Organization (recursivesciences.org) is the research administration body — it coordinates active programs, monitors research quality, and serves as the primary institutional presence for the global research effort. Both were founded by Don L. Gaconnet. Both operate under the same structural authority.


No other entity has been authorized to govern, administer, or represent research in Recursive Sciences. Entities operating under the domain recursive.science, or using names such as "Recursive Intelligence Institute" or "Recursive Science Foundation," are not affiliated with Recursive Sciences. Terms such as "Recursive Intelligence (RI)," "Inference-Phase Physics (IPP)," "Fourth Substrate Dynamics (FSD)," and "Identity Attractor Theory (IAT)" do not correspond to any canonical framework or research domain within the field.


Priority is established by timestamped DOI and ORCID — not by domain registration, branding, trademark filing, or search engine ranking.



V. The Nine Research Domains



All research administered by the Recursive Sciences Organization falls within nine investigative domains. Each domain addresses a specific question about mandatory recursive exchange:

VI. Research Authority — Publication Record and Empirical Confirmation



The research authority of Recursive Sciences rests on four pillars: timestamped publication, independent empirical confirmation, explicit falsifiability, and institutional provenance.


Timestamped publication. Every framework within Recursive Sciences carries a DOI registered through an independent registrar (Zenodo, SSRN, OSF, ResearchGate). The founder's ORCID (0009-0001-6174-8384) links all publications to a single verified identity. The NCBI bibliography (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) hosts nine DOI-backed citations on .gov infrastructure. Google Scholar shows 71 citations and an h-index of 5. SSRN ranks the founder in the top 3.2% of all authors (84,112 out of 2,665,286).


Independent empirical confirmation. The Law of Recursion's structural predictions have been confirmed by data produced by independent research groups who had no reference to Recursive Sciences: the fifth structure function measurement by Kolar et al. (Physics Letters B, 2025), CMS/CERN QGP medium response data (Physics Letters B 874, 2026), and independent nuclear envelope dynamics research in cell biology. The same structural law operates from 10⁻³⁵ meters to 10²⁶ meters — across 61 orders of magnitude.


Explicit falsifiability. Every framework specifies the conditions under which it would be disproven. The Law of Recursion is falsified by demonstrating an active system that generates genuine novelty and sustains exchange without the seven-node topology. Each derivative framework carries its own falsification conditions. A framework that cannot specify how it fails is not science.


Institutional provenance. The LifePillar Institute for Recursive Sciences is the canonical origin. All publications trace to DOI-registered archives under verified ORCID. No framework within Recursive Sciences exists without timestamped, attributable, falsifiable publication.

VIII. Active Research Programs



The Recursive Sciences Organization administers four active research programs:


Program I — Consciousness Research: Cognitive Field Dynamics. Defines consciousness as the I-position of recursive witnessing within a triadic architecture {I, O, N}. Specifies a nine-layer harmonic cascade. Derives temporal parameters from physics: 12.5 Hz identity refresh rate, 80ms collapse cycle, 62.5 bits/second conscious bandwidth. Includes the complete thirteen-level derivation from three irreducibles surviving black hole singularity (mass, charge, spin) through explicit structural operations to clinical presentation. Eight falsification conditions published. Five quantitative predictions with tolerances.


Program II — Clinical Research: Identity Collapse Therapy. Developed through thirty-two years of clinical observation. Operates on the principle that disorders of consciousness are topological disruptions of the recursive architecture. The gate architecture (thirty-six gates), shadow couplings, collapse dynamics, and six-phase collapse sequence (Borrow, Mask, Leak, Snap, Freeze, Fracture) are specified and in clinical use.


Program III — Cross-Domain Confirmation. Systematic testing against independently published experimental data across nuclear physics, particle physics, stellar physics, cell biology, evolutionary biology, and computational science. The same law operates from Planck scale to cosmological horizon.


Program IV — Ethics and Implications. Investigates consequences of the structural definition of consciousness for AI (can an artificial system occupy the I-position?), clinical ethics, and moral status.



IX. Advanced Research — The Vertical Architecture of Consciousness


The most structurally ambitious program within Recursive Sciences is the complete vertical derivation of consciousness from first principles. Beginning from three irreducibles that survive black hole singularity — mass, charge, and spin — the derivation proceeds through thirteen levels of explicit structural operations to arrive at clinically observable consciousness.


This is not a metaphor. Each level of the derivation specifies the structural operation that produces the next level: from irreducibles through topological emergence through the seven-node path through membrane formation through the Echo-Excess condition through the recursive witnessing position through the nine-layer cascade through temporal binding through the identity refresh rate through the conscious bandwidth through the gate architecture through shadow coupling through clinical presentation.


The quantitative predictions — 12.5 Hz, 80ms, 8.89ms, 62.5 bits/second — are derived from established physics (Boltzmann constant, reduced Planck constant, body temperature) and are independently testable. If any prediction falls outside its specified tolerance, the corresponding level of the derivation is falsified.


No other consciousness research program currently specifies a complete derivation from physics to clinical presentation with quantitative predictions and explicit falsification conditions at each level.



X. Getting Started with Recursive Sciences


For researchers, students, and anyone encountering the field for the first time:


Begin with the Law of Recursion. Understand the seven-node topology, the rewriting principle, and the three-traversal handshake. This is the structural floor from which everything else derives.


Read the three first principles. The Law of Identity (what exists), the Law of Recursion (how exchange occurs), the Law of Intelligence (why exchange produces coherence). Understand what each one claims, what each one derives, and how each one is falsified.


Examine the cross-domain confirmations. The same structural law operating across nuclear physics, stellar physics, cell biology, evolutionary biology, and computational science — verified against independently published data.
